Coffee in the Morning by George Mendoza
In my corner of the universe, Lord,
spring waits, about to wake,
ready to rise from frozen earth
ready to rise from frozen earth
warming the sun for garden beds,
thirsty for April rain…
thirsty for April rain…
I know that spring will come, Lord:
a blooming green triumph over winter’s sway
with breezes sweeping clean the walks,
the paths that lead to summer’s rest…
I'm sure that spring will come outdoors
but I pray for spring's arrival in my soul:
hope warming my winter-chilled heart,
sprouting, budding, rising up,
in spirits fresh with mercy’s morning dew...
I offer you my heart this morning, Lord:
stretching to wake, ready to dance,
eager to be lifted by your gentle, loving hand…
Rise within me!
Breathe your Spirit's power
sweeping clean the pathways of my heart,
sweeping clean the pathways of my heart,
making way for you and for your healing word...
Spring-clean my soul for Easter joy:
resurrect my hope in you
and in this season of your grace:
wake the springtime of your life deep in my soul...
wake the springtime of your life deep in my soul...
And make me mindful of my neighbors
waking from their own dark, wintry days:
keep us patient with each other
as we stretch and bud and bloom and
as we stretch and bud and bloom and
wait for you in all the ways you spring to life
within us and among us...
within us and among us...
Amen.
