On Sundays, Night Prayer will focus on an element from the day's celebration of Mass. Tonight we reflect on the scene in the first reading where God is revealed to Moses in the burning bush.
Holy is the ground, Lord,
anywhere on earth,
where you reveal yourself
and your people know your presence...

and I come to know your presence...
Holy is the ground, Lord,
anywhere on earth,
where the human and divine
come together in one place...
Holy ground:
it might be on a mountain top
or by the water's edge;
it might be in the forest,
a cathedral made of pines...
Holy ground:
it might be on the subway,
the expressway or a runway;
it might be in the silence
or in the noise of city traffic...
Holy ground:
it might be on a porch,
in a bed or at a table;
it might be in a hospital,
a psych ward or a nursing home...
Holy ground:
it might in the desert
or along a country road;
it might be in the sunshine
in the rain or in the snow...
Holy ground:
it might be in a chapel,
a basilica or church;
it might be at a funeral home
or graveyard, green and still...
Holy ground:
it might be in my room alone,
or in a group of friends at prayer;
it might in the noon day sun
or deep into the night...
It might be... anywhere!
There are no limits on holy ground:
God is everywhere
and always seeking to reveal the Divine
to our very human experience,
to our faith, our senses and our imagination
in our thoughts and dreams and prayers...
Take some time this evening
to remember the times and places and circumstnaces
where you have encountered the Lord
and found yourself on holy ground...
Spend some time treasuring those memories
and thanking God for them
- and in the remembering
you may find yourself on holy ground again...
Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me as I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep rest in your peace..
