NIGHT PRAYER: Tuesday 3/8

I don't know how you do it, Lord,

but somehow you listen to and keep track of

all the prayers of billions of people

all over the world,

all day long and night...

You hear all my prayers:

    the formal and the casual,

    the silent and the spoken,

    the thoughtful and the hurried,

    the selfish and the generous,

    the prayers I've prayed for years

    and the ones brand new tonight...

 

And you know all the people I pray for:

    the ones I mention by name,

    the ones I group by nation (Ukraine!),

    the strangers whose needs I saw today

        whose names I just don't know,

    the ones whose names I learned

        from the news and social media,

    the nameless ones who gather here

        each morning and each night...

 

I trust you hear me when I pray

    for what I need myself

but I think our prayers are best, Lord,

    when we pray for one another...

So I pray tonight for all the folks

    I've promised to remember

- and for the ones who've slipped my mind

    but still are in my heart.

And if I might - a special prayer -

    for those who pray for me, Lord!

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake,

keep vigil while I sleep

that awake, I might keep watch with you

and asleep, rest in your peace...
