It was warm last night, Lord,
and through my open window
I heard Brother Owl calling
'neath the light of Sister Moon...
Soft hoots, so warm and soothing:
a mantra for my soul,
a lullaby for compline,
an evening song of peace...
But in his hoo-hoo-hoo
I'm sure I heard your Spirit chanting,
asking: Who, Who, Who?
Who's the One who loves you? Who?
Who's the One whose love you seek?
Who's the One you long and wait for,
who's the One who waits for you?
Who's the One who fills your heart,
who overflows its breadth and depths?
Who's the One who always pardons,
who's the one whose mercy heals?
Who's the One who knows your name,
who calls you Chosen, Friend, Beloved?
Who's the One who sings his love for you,
who sings the whole night through?
Who's the One who holds you while you sleep,
who wakes you, come the dawn?
Who's the One who knows you inside out,
who loves you head to toe?
Who's the One who always was, who is,
who ever more shall be?
Who's the One you long and wait for,
who waits all night for you? Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake,
keep vigil while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and sleep in your deep peace...
Amen.
Tonight's song is based on Native American music accompanied by the song of hooting owls; the selection is lengthy so just listen for as long as you pray...
