NIGHT PRAYER: Thursday 5/4

Regular readers know that for the past week my prayer posts have centered on my family's loss of my nephew, Michael. My family and I are very grateful for your messages and prayers - the outpouring has been a source of much comfort. It's a blessing, too, to know that these posts have helped many of you in your own grief or that you have passed these prayers on to others you knew might benefit from them. After this post, I'll  be returning to content you're more accustomed to finding here.  Let us all continue to pray for one another!

Hope means hoping when things are hopeless
   - or it is no virtue at all...
As long as matters are really hopeful,
   hope is mere flattery or platitude;
it is only when everything is hopeless
that hope begins to be a strength.

Be my hope, Lord,
    be my hope...
Be my hope for light
when I'm totally in the dark...

Be my hope for serenity
in the midst of my distress...

Be my hope for tomorrow
   when I'm stuck in yesterday...

Be my hope for healing
   in body, mind and soul...

Be my hope for joy
   when sadness overwhelms me...

Be my hope for understanding
   when I'm lost in confusion...

Be my hope for grace
   when I'm tempted to sin...

Be my hope for pardon
when I have sinned - and sinned again...

Be my hope for wisdom
   when I’m lost in foolishness...

Be my hope for help
when I fear there is none...

Be my hope in faith
   when I'm lost in doubt...

Be my hope for love
   when I'm most alone...

Be my hope for hope
when all my hope is gone...
Lord Jesus, be my way, my truth, my life:
          Lord Jesus,  be my hope!
          Lord Jesus, hear my prayer!

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.

  1. We lost our baby granddaughter a few weeks ago, and your recent posts have helped me when grief makes yet another unexpected appearance. My prayer for you is should grief be waiting for you around the corner one day, that you won't hesitate to include in your prayers for the day. Some of us will be right there with you. Thank you for this ministry!
