NIGHT PRAYER: Wednesday 11/16

Time for us to pray for peace and sadly, Lord,
it seems it's always time to pray for peace...

It's time to pray again for:
    - an end to all aggression, terrorism and violence
and for peace between nations now at war
    - a spirit of peace across our nation
and the healing of all that tears us apart
    - a spirit of peaceful cooperation in and between
        the branches of our government
    - peace in the streets of our cities
            and neighborhoods
    - peace in our homes and in our families
    - peace among people of different faiths
and peace in our own house, the Church
    - peace with our coworkers, classmates and colleagues
    - peace between me and those in my life
with whom I'm not at peace...
    - peace in the hearts of one and all
    - peace in our minds and thoughts,
in our hearts and souls, in our words and deeds,
in our hopes and dreams and plans
    - peace between you and us, your people
the peace that's only yours to give,
the peace for which  the whole world hungers,
the peace you pour forth from your heart,
the peace we're called to make and share...

Protect us, Lord, while we're awake
and watch over us while we sleep
that awake, we might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.

As I've noted before, tonight's song is not one of my favorites.  Still,  it seems singularly appropriate after the prayer above. With simple acoustic accompaniment this choral arrangement succeeds in effortlessly lifting the soul to God...

Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me
Let there be peace on earth
The peace that was meant to be
With God as our Father
Family all are we
Let us walk with each other
In perfect harmony

Let peace begin with me
Let this be the moment now
With every step I take
Let this be my solemn vow
To take each moment
And live each moment
In peace eternally
Let there be peace on earth,
And let it begin with me
