NIGHT PRAYER: Sunday 1/22

 

On Sundays, Night Prayer will focus on an element from the day's celebration of Mass. This weekend we're observing Word of God Sunday so our prayer this evening pleads with God to speak a word, a word we can hear, a word we can understand...

 Shout in my face, Lord 

    - or whisper softly in my ear...

 

Just say something - and let me hear it 

    in my mind, in my heart, in my prayer...

 

Speak to me, Lord:
   in a word, a verse, a phrase, a grunt;
   in my heart's story or the pages of scripture; 
   in my thoughts, my musings, my dreams;
   in my joys and sorrows, weaknesses and strengths;

   in the words of family, friends - even strangers...

 

Speak to me, Lord:
   break through the sometimes lonely

       and deafening silence;

and speak to me, Lord,

    just speak to me...

 

Unclog the ears of my heart, Lord,
   let your voice pierce my stubborn doubts and pride
        and enter and echo within me,
          somewhere deep inside me ,

    where I can listen and truly hear

        when you call my name and speak your love...

 

Speak Lord - speak to me:

    speak in ways I can understand, 

    speak in a language my heart knows

    speak in the jargon of my daily life...

 

Speak to me, Lord, and help me trust 

    all that I hear you say...

 

P.S.

    And help me trust that you listen, Lord,

        that you truly hear

            all that I say to you...

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake

and watch over me while I sleep

that awake, I might keep watch with you

and asleep, rest in your peace...
