Well, Lord,
it's that time of the year
when we wear less clothing,
show more skin,
and reveal what we've been hiding
under winter wraps and coats...
On these warm and sunny days
we're more aware of who we are
in the flesh, in our bodies,
in the skin you gave as clothing
when you made us in your image...
And ever since that time
back in Eden's garden days,
something deep becomes revealed, Lord,
when we strip away the layers
that hide our sense of shame
and unveil ourselves for who we are,
standing in your gaze...
But you love our naked hearts
and you never blush to see us
exactly as we are...
There's nothing we can hide from you:
you see through all the layers
of our costumes, masks and fashions;
you see into our souls, Lord,
and you love what you see;
you heal our wounded hearts,
you mend our broken parts
and you clothe us in sheer mercy
through which all your glory shines...
Sacred is the body
that you've given us to live in,
a temple for your Spirit,
dwelling deep within our souls...
Help us love the flesh that's ours, Lord,
help us nurture it with care;
help us see in one another
your reflection, pure, divine...
Protect us, Lord, while we're awake
and watch over us while we sleep
that awake, we keep the watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.
