Thank you, Lord,
for the grace that led me
to pause and sit back,
to take a deep breath
- and a second look -
at some of the things, the little things,
that have worried and irked me
these past few days...
Thank you, Lord, for these simple gifts:
the grace of perspective,
a clear frame of reference,
the logic of relative importance
and the wisdom of scaled expectations...
What demons conspired to warp my vision,
beguiling me to imagine mountains
where only molehills dotted my path?
What spirits enticed me to worry and fret
over things too small to matter,
about problems that lie far beyond my reach,
and concerns over which I am powerless
- in spite of how much I wish I could do...
All of this, Lord, disturbs and distracts me,
diverting my mind's attention,
seducing my heart's affections
away from you
and your gift of grace empowering me
to see you more clearly,
love you more dearly
and follow you more nearly
day by day by day...
And thank you, Lord,
for the grace that will lead me
tomorrow and each time I need
to pause and sit back,
to take a deep breath
- and a second look -
at all of the things
that will worry and irk me
unless and until
I call on your name,
on your Spirit, your wisdom and grace...
Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.
Tonight's song is a little uptempo for an evening hymn
but it carries well the message of the prayer...

Turnin' molehills into mountains
Makin' big deals out of small ones
Bearing gifts as if they're burdens
This is how it's been
Fear of coming out of my shell
Too many things I can't do too well
'Fraid I'll try real hard and I'll fail
This is how it's been
Till the day You pounded on my heart's door
And You shouted joyfully
You're not a slave anymore!
You're free to dance
Forget about your two left feet
And you're free to sing
Even joyful noise is music to Me
And free to love
Cause I've given you My love
And it's made you free
My mind finds hard to believe
That You've become humanity
And changed the course of history
Because You loved us so
And my heart cannot understand
Why You'd accept me as I am
But You say You've always had a plan
And that's all I need to know
So when I am consumed
By what the world will say
It's then You're singing to me,
as You remove
my chains
You're free to dance
Forget about your two left feet
And you're free to sing
Even joyful noise is music to Me
And free to love
Cause I've given you My love
And it's made you free
Free from worry
Free from envy and denial
Free to live, free to give, free to smile
You're free to dance
Forget about your two left feet
And you're free to sing
Even joyful noise is music to Me
And free to love
Cause I've given you My love
And it's made you free
I've given you My love
And it's made you free
I have set you free
