The month of June (and Fridays all year 'round) are times of special devotion to the Holy Heart of Jesus.  Today is the first Friday in June so our prayer turns us to Jesus' heart.  Beginning this evening, Night Prayer on all the Friday's of June will focus on the heart of Jesus.

 

We love you, Lord,

    for your holy heart, 

        laid bare for us on the Cross

 

    your innocent, pure and gentle heart, 

        pierced by the lance of our sins 

 

     and for your wounded heart, 

        bleeding the mercy we need 

 

    your loving heart, 

        hiding us in its chambers 

 

    your healing heart, 

        soothing our broken spirits

 

    your patient heart, 

        waiting for us to come around

 

    your tender heart, 

        strength for us in our weakness 

 

    your engaging heart, 

        always reaching to draw us in 

 

    your generous heart, 

        overflowing with kindness and blessing 

 

    your selfless, just and faithful  heart, 

        our font of truth and wisdom 

 

    your divine, immortal, mystical heart, 

        haven for our humanity 

 

    your gracious, lenient, playful heart, 

        source of our song and our joy 

 

    your abiding, timeless, ageless heart, 

        at home in our finite world 

 

    your benign, merciful, selfless heart, 

        emptied for us in compassion

 

    your indulgent, boundless, bursting heart, 

        filling our souls with praise and prayer 

 

    your redeeming heart,

         making us whole once again 

 

    your forgiving heart: 

        our pardon, our peace and our hope 

 

    your eternal heart, 

        one with our human frame 

 

    your centered heart, 

        still point in all our chaos

 

    your robust heart,

         stronger than all of our fears 

 

    your liberating heart, 

        undoing all that holds us back 

 

    your penetrating heart, 

        settling deep within our thoughts 

 

    your creative heart, 

        sparking our dreams and desires 

 

    your seductive heart, 

        sweeping us off our feet 

 

    your saving heart, 

        delivering us from evil 

 

    your consoling heart,

         easing our sorrow and grief 

 

    your peaceful heart,

        refuge for us in our troubles

 

    your risen heart, 

        our promise of life forever... 

 

    your heart, O Lord, your holy heart,

        the very heart of God...

 

O gentle, cosmic heart of Christ, 

    receive our praise as this day dawns...

 

O patient, healing heart of Christ,

    we place our trust, our hope, in you;

 

O holy heart of Jesus, 

    we place our hearts in your heart

        - as you place yours in ours...
