Tomorrow (August 15) is the feast of
the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
We live in a rough world, Lord,
a rough and tumble, harsh and unforgiving place
where humankind and nature
make dangerous the streets we walk,
the neighborhoods we live in
and our global village
where we've yet to find the way to live
in harmony and peace,
united in one family...
Fires, earthquakes, hurricanes and floods
shift the natural balance
claiming homes and lives and hopes
especially from the innocent,
the young, the frail, the poor...
Power-hungry greed lays waste
that precious balance
meant to keep us all alive, healthy,
flourishing and growing
in the garden you created...
For pleasure, for a dollar, for a vote
we betray the human dignity
bestowed on each by you,
our Maker, Lover, God...
So we turn today to Mary,
gentle woman, quiet light,
morning star, so strong and bright
gentle mother, peaceful dove,
seat of wisdom, heart of love...
Be our mother, be our sister,
filled with just the grace we need
to become your faithful children,
making peace with one another,
kind and gentle with our neighbor
and the world we call our home...
Gentle Mother, peaceful dove,
teach us wisdom; teach us love...
teach us wisdom; teach us love...
Holy Mary, God's own Mother,
pray for us while we're awake;
cradle us throughout the night
until a new day breaks...
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women
the Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women
and blest is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now
and at the hour of death.
Amen.
Gentle woman, quiet light,
morning star, so strong and bright,
gentle Mother, peaceful dove,
teach us wisdom; teach us love.
You were chosen by the Father;
you were chosen for the Son.
You were chosen from all women
and for woman, shining one.
Blessed are you among women,
blest in turn all women, too.
Blessed they with peaceful spirits.
Blessed they with gentle hearts.
