I watch a leaf fall from its branch,
Amen.
it skitters here and there
and dances down the street
at the wind's own beck and call..
I follow that one leaf, Lord,
as it dawdles, pokes along,
until a jete, it lifts and leaps
with joy deep in my soul...
I am that leaf, Lord, often stalled
and stilled upon the path
or sometimes skipping all about,
possessed by secret joy...
possessed by secret joy...
I am that leaf,
your breath my power
to rise above and fly beyond
what tethers me to earth...
I am that leaf and you my Spirit,
wild wind beneath my wings,
lifting me 'til I descend
and gently fall and rest...
I am that leaf, I cry to you
to raise me up from sorrows deep
to find the hope, the peace, the joy
that comes from you alone...
I am that leaf and you're the air
I need to breathe, to dance, to play,
to make my way along the path
that's yours and mine to walk...
that's yours and mine to walk...
In the silence of this moment,
in the power of your Spirit,
lift my soul and carry me to be
with you in prayer tonight...
In my prayer, Lord, help me see
you've been my wind, my breath, my way
each time that I, a lonely leaf,
have fallen from my tree...
Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake,
watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.
For tonight's music, listen here and in your prayerful imagination, think of yourself as a falling leaf in your relationship with God...
