Consider these words:
dense
dull
obtuse
foolish
idiotic
stupid
silly
mindless
irrational
unreasonable
illogical
unsound
mad
unperceptive
insane
crazy
brainless
senseless
preposterous
This list might well describe the characters and situations in the headlines - but these words didn't come to my mind after reading the daily news. Rather, these are antonyms that dictionaries offer for the word wise. How deeply do our world, our church and our own family and friendship circles hunger and thirst these days for a taste, a sip of wisdom.
The scriptures describe wisdom in the feminine, as we find here in this passage from the Book of Wisdom (7:22 - 8:1) where Solomon praises her many attributes... Perhaps reading these words, studying them and praying them, might increase our appetite for the wisdom God offers us - and which we so much need to shape our thinking, our speech and our deeds...
