NIGHT PRAYER: Easter Sunday 2024

On the evening of that first day of the week, Lord,
    on that first Easter night,
you came to your friends who were huddled in fear,
    gathered in dread behind closed doors
        your friends who had fled and abandoned you

and yet your first word to them was - Peace!

 

 There are times when I need your peace,  Lord,
    when worry and fear threaten to close the door of my heart
        to the peace and joy of Easter day;

when worry and fear are reaching to rob me
    of what my faith assures me;

when worry and fear weary my hope
    and leave me awake and restless...

I need your peace tonight
    to calm my troubled thoughts,
    to strengthen my trust and hope in you,
    to assure me one more time, Lord,
        that all shall be well, that all shall be well,
        that in you and your peace
        all manner of things shall be well...

I pray for the gift of your peace, Lord,
    your abiding presence, deep in my soul; 

and I pray for the gift of deep sleep
    to refresh me to face tomorrow;

I pray for the blessing of rest and refreshment

    that comes to those who open their hearts

        to you rmercy, your grace and your love...

 

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake

   and watch over me while I sleep

that awake, I might keep watch with you

    and asleep, rest in your peace...
