I was about to thank you, Lord,
for the gift of this perfect fall day
and I was going to mention
that it was a gift I didn't deserve
- and then I remembered
I don't deserve any of my life's blessings:
I've done nothing to merit them,
none of them are owed me
and certainly - 'tis I who's in debt to you...
Everything good in my life, Lord,
Every. Good. Thing.
is a gift from you:
unmerited, freely given
by One who owes me nothing
but to whom I'm deep in debt
right up to my ears...
Every good thing in my life, Lord:
this last day in September;
every breath I take;
my family, friends
and all who love and care for me;
my memories, good and bad alike;
my imagination and my sense of humor;
every joy I've ever known and treasured;
every sadness that has stretched my heart;
all my blessings, gifts, talents,
curiosity and sense of wonder,
and everything I know
through vision, sight, and touch
- all this, Lord, is surely, purely gift from you,
unmerited, unearned and undeserved...
And I've little to offer in return, Lord
save my gratitude, my humble thank-you,
my empty hands, raised up in prayer...
So, thank you for this glorious day, Lord,
and for all that fills my heart
and for your Spirit opening wide my eyes
to see how blessed I am...
Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me as I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.

Oh Lord my GodWhen I in awesome wonderConsider all the worldsThy hands have made
I see the starsI hear the rolling thunderThy power throughoutThe universe displayed
Then sings my soul My Savior, God, to TheeHow great thou art How great thou art
Then sings my soul My Savior, God, to TheeHow great Thou art How great Thou art
When through the woods
And forest glades I wander
And hear the birds
sing sweetly in the trees
When I look down
from lofty mountain grandeur
and hear the brook
and feel the gentle breeze
When Christ shall comeWith shouts of acclamationAnd take me homeWhat joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bowWith humble adorationAnd then proclaim My GodHow great Thou art
