I'm looking forward to Christmas, Lord,
to an Advent of waiting
for all that's to come;
to celebrating your birth
with family in Georgetown;
to the end of 2024
and the challenge of 2025...
But I'm dreading what's just ahead, Lord:
the horror of war
in this season of peace;
the buying and selling
of a day so holy;
and music that hasn't a clue
of who and what you're all about...
Let me conceive you in my heart, then,
your Word taking flesh within my body...
Quiet all my days and nights, Lord,
while I wait for your coming once again...
Crown this year with your mercy and your grace
'til the mystery of a new year comes to birth...
Be yourself the gift I'm longing to receive:
your presence, Lord, your blessing and your peace...
Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.
