Social media is filled with suggestions for

    "this year's new and amazing Christmas gifts!" 

These ads offer gadgets and doodads, widgets and gizmos

    that light up and flicker and fly through the air,

        making all things easier, delightful and brighter

    and each one is wifi and blue-tooth controlled

        - and USB port rechargeable!

Well, truth be told, Lord,

    I might have bought a few of these toys

but not without a heap of buyers remorse

    for I know in my heart that none of these things

        have much to do with Christmas...

Christmas...  

Christmas gifts...

Real Christmas gifts aren't plastic

    - and nor are they battery powered...

 

The real gifts of Christmas are born, 

    not made... 

The true gifts of Christmas 

    sparkle with tears shed in love...

The best Christmas gifts

    are formed and fashioned

        of flesh and blood and spirit and soul...

Real Christmas gifts are made of grace, 

    given in love, humbly received,

        and selflessly shared

            again and again and again and again...

At the malls and online

    there are 32 shopping days left until Christmas

but in my heart and imagination,

    in my nightly dreams and prayers,

        in my faith and hope and love

    the season for making a gift of myself

        has no beginning, no middle no end

    for every day is a day to give

        myself as a present to you and to all...
