NIGHT PRAYER: Thursday 2/27

It's good, every now and again, to remember how many of us are gathered together in prayer each night...

We're here again tonight, Lord,
all of us who come each evening
to this cyber chapel, for prayer:
    some after supper, some just before bed,
    some in the middle of the night
    and still others not til the next day...

We gather
    although we don't see each other;
we pray as one
    without hearing each other,
we sing as a choir
    a song only you can hear...

You meet us in our virtual chapel, Lord,
    you're waiting for us when we drop in,
        all ears to hear the day's sorrows and joys;
    you open your arms to bring us together,
        you hold us close and you whisper gently,
            All shall be well, all shall be well,
                all manner of things shall be well...

Tonight, Lord, as always, we pray for each other:
    linked by your Spirit,
    paired through faith,
    networked in trust,
    connected by hope,
    live streamed in prayer
        rising up to you...

Make us mindful of one another, Lord:
    from the heart of each comes a prayer for all
        and love for the many
            who are one in your praise tonight...

Protect us, Lord, while we're awake
    and watch over us while we sleep
        (in many different time zones)
that awake, we might keep watch with you
    and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.

Two options for our musical reflection tonight.  First is an instrumental piece by Arvo Part, one of my favorite composers.  Just close your eyes and imagine all those who are with you in prayer tonight... Second is John Rutter's "Deep Peace," a blessing/lullabye each of us might pray/sing for one another as we gather in the Lord's presence tonight...
