Today is observed as World Day of the Sick. You can find Pope Francis' message for this day here. Many who read this page are sick themselves and all of us know how illness burdens the lives of so many. In that spirit, let us pray...
You're our Divine Physician, Lord,
the healer of our bodies, hearts and souls...
Tonight we pray for those who are sick,
especially for the chronically afflicted
and the terminally ill:
be their strength in times of pain, Lord,
their courage when the news is bad,
their assurance when they're losing hope,
their comfort in prolonged distress,
their support when feeling weak and spent,
their endurance when the day is long,
their prayer to make it through the night,
their pledge of your abiding care,
your blessing and your healing grace...
And be with those who care for them:
nurses, doctors, counselors,
specialists and therapists,
x-ray techs and pharmacists,
EMTs and the ER crew,
the VNA and home health aides
hospice staff and social workers,
surgeons, radiologists
and anesthesiologists,
family, friends and volunteers
and all who bring the sacraments
to those who are infirm...
Mend our broken places, Lord,
where others may have roughly trod,
places worn by wear and tear,
and weakened by our aging...
where others may have roughly trod,
places worn by wear and tear,
and weakened by our aging...
Heal us where we're weak, Lord:
make us strong where we've been broken,
make us whole where we've been wounded,
make us well where we are sick at heart...
Bind up what needs support
and with the balm of your anointing
nurse our bodies back to health
and our souls, with grace, to peace...
Protect us, Lord while we're awake
and watch over us while we sleep
that awake, we might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.

Father, you are here; holy, this anointing,
gift of sweetest comfort in our suffering.
God, we are afraid; you restore our courage.
Though we are in darkness
bind our wounds with light.
We are healed in Christ.
Jesus, you abide; gentle is your presence.
Grant to us your strength for we are weak of heart.
In your loving cross is our restoration.
Every scar we've carried you have crucified.
We are healed in Christ.
Blessed be our God healing us in Christ,
consolation of our soul.
Blessed be our God healing us in Christ,
making all that once was broken, whole.
Blessed be our God healing us in Christ,
consolation of our soul.
Blessed be our God healing us in Christ,
making all that once was broken, whole.
Spirit lead us home, into our belonging.
Love has made a way our future is secured.
And beyond the veil, all our tears forgotten,
every last affliction we will leave behind,
every shame forgiven as we find our life and
O how we shall sing forever in the skies.
We are healed in Christ.
