Morning Coffee by George Mendoza |
The story in the first reading at mass yesterday is still in my thoughts...
Good morning, good God!
On a mountain in the desert, Lord,
you told Moses to take off his shoes
because he stood on holy ground:
ground made holy,
by your very presence...
But you're omnipresent, Lord!
You're everywhere
and so all ground is holy!
Everywhere I go
and everywhere I wander,
everywhere I rest
and everywhere I dawdle,
everywhere I work
and everywhere I play,
everywhere where I get lost
and everywhere I pray,
everywhere is holy, Lord,
is holy, holy, holy ground
where I take off my shoes
and my barefoot soul
meets you...
my hope and my desire
to recognize the holy ground
where I will walk today:
the holy ground each morning
where my bare feet
hit the floor...
the holy ground
in my shower
where you baptize my day...
the holy ground
in every room
in the place I call my home...
the holy ground I travel
by car, bike, bus or train
to take me where I'm going
and meet you 'long the way...
the holy ground of cyberspace
where many come to pray
on the virtual foundation
where your Spirit makes us one...
the holy ground of every place
I share with friends and family,
with passersby and strangers,
with all who paths will cross my own
and bless the earth we tread...
the holy ground of any place
where my heart turns to prayer
and my soul takes off its shoes,
where I walk the morning dew, Lord,
in the meadows
of your peace...
Amen.
