NIGHT PRAYER: Wednesday 3/12

The story goes that Saint Boniface said,
"After the Lord's long fast in the desert, when the angels came to minister to him, they went first to the Blessed Mother to see what she had on her stove, and got the soup she had prepared and transported it to Jesus, who relished it the more because his mother had prepared it. Of course!"

Although it's probably only a legend, it's a beautiful tale and one worthy of our reflection - and prayer...

I come to you this evening, Lord,
wanting to offer you a soup bowl full
of what you most desire from my heart
though on many days I'm convinced
    I've got nothing to offer,
    nothing really worthwhile,
    nothing you'd need or want..
.
Of course you loved your Mother's soup
    - though not so much for its broth and flavor -
but mostly because it was hers...

And you love what my heart has to offer
    - you love my soup -
not for its culinary excellence
    - but imply because it's mine...

Even if I brought you an empty bowl,
    you'd relish my emptiness, Lord,
and fill it to overflowing
with the love you have for me...

So here it is, Lord,
here's the bowl of my heart:
accept what I have to offer
and fill my emptiness in return
with your mercy, your grace and your peace...

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.

You are with me
And Your glory
Is all around me, oh
In Your presence
I'm surrounded
It's overwhelming, oh

Entering in, I lift empty hands
I need You again
to send the waves of Your Spirit

Fill me oh God, come flood my heart
'Til I overflow with Your presence
Fill me oh God, come flood my heart
'Til I overflow with Your presence

I come to worship
For You are worthy
Forever holy, oh
Your love's resounding
Through the heavens
I will praise the name of Jesus King of kings

Entering in, I lift empty hands
I need You again
to send the waves of Your Spirit

Fill me oh God, come flood my heart
'Til I overflow with Your presence
Fill me oh God, come flood my heart
'Til I overflow with Your presence

Holy, holy, holy
Lord God Almighty
Who was and is to come
Who was and is to come

Fill me oh God, come flood my heart
'Til I overflow with Your presence
Fill me oh God, come flood my heart
'Til I overflow with Your presence
