NIGHT PRAYER: Sunday 5/25

On this Memorial Day weekend, we honor those who gave their lives in service of their nation.  Beyond that, Memorial Day has also become a time to visit and decorate the graves of  all our deceased family members and friends.  People visit a cemetery to remember those buried there, recalling memories of the love they shared - and by praying that God has welcomed them to the company of angels and saints in the everlasting joy of heaven.

This Night Prayer offers:
    - a prayer adapted from the funeral rite,
and
    -  the Litany of the Saints with it's recurring refrain:
"All you holy men and women, pray for us..."

Trusting in you, Lord, we pray

for _______  and _______

and _______ and_______

and _______ and_______

to whom we've bid our last farewell.

Holding the sorrow of their passing in our hearts
we take comfort in the hope
that one day we shall see them again
    and enjoy their love
when your mercy gathers us together again
in the joy of your kingdom.

Until then, we find our peace and consolation
in our faith in you, Lord,
        and in your saving love.

Protect us, Lord, while we're awake
and watch over us while we sleep
that awake, we may keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.
