Pause for Prayer: THURSDAY 5/8

Lord, 

I don't know how many ballots it will take

but I do know the kind of pope

I hope will be elected. 

I hope and pray, Lord,

for a man of faith and love,

a humble servant of your Word,

a prophet of your Spirit's grace...

 

I pray for a man of trust and hope,

a strong defender of the truth,

a herald of your gospel... 

I pray for a man of prayer and praise,

a guardian of our sacred rites,

the sacraments of your presence...

 

I pray for a man 

    of constancy and change

who'll follow wherever your Spirit leads

and light the way for us all... 

I pray for a man of tenderness and strength

to comfort the frail, encourage the weak

and heal the brokenhearted... 

I pray for a man of wisdom and counsel,

steeped in the scriptures and ready to share

the treasures of our tradition... 

 

I pray for a man of patience and mercy,

compassion and justice,

compassion and understanding...

 

I pray for a man of integrity,

    sacrifice and honor,

single-minded in your service,

chosen to do your will...

 

I pray for a man of peace and pardon,

balance and good order,

amnesty and leniency, unity and harmony...

 

I pray for a man who'll shepherd your flock,

gathering your lambs in his arms,

holding them close to his heart, 

leading them home...

 

I pray for a man of holiness and joy,

anointed and sent by your Holy Spirit

to serve all your sons and daughters...

I pray for a man who knows you, O Lord,

who has the gifts to call the whole world

to you, to your Word and your love...
