Pause for Prayer: TUESDAY 6/3

A single peony, Lord:
   beautiful, pure and natural...
   innocent, clean, unspoiled...
   bright and true to self...

I fear I'm none of those things, Lord,
   well, at least not anymore,
though perhaps one day I was
   oh, so many years ago...

But now I'm worn and tarnished,
   bruised by foolish things
I'd no right to desire,
to think or say or do...

Still, I'll be bold and ask you
   - for whom all things are possible:
refresh and make me over,
   recreate me, inside out...

Give me back the beauty, Lord,
   in which I was created,
in your image and your likeness...

Cleanse me with your mercy,
   make me innocent and pure
as the day when I was born...

With your power make me true, Lord,
to your wisdom, word and will.
      and your Spirit's gentle lead...

Make me new again this spring, Lord,
let your grace renew my soul
as my heart gives you the glory
and the praise your name is due...

Amen.
