Monday Morning Offering: 8/18

Good morning, good God!

What a gift is this day, Lord,
and though it often slips my mind
I know you always give me
just one day at a time...

Not days in bunches,
not in weeks, months or years
but just one day at a time
as though you know,
as I'm sure you do,
that one day is just about all
and more than enough
for me to handle...

All my yesterdays and yesteryears
came also from your hand
but they're past, they're gone,
while this day’s gift
is new and fresh, promising:
the day that you have made…

And while I trust tomorrow, too,
will be safe in your loving care,
my future is unknown to me,
still stored within your heart,
a mystery past my meager reach
but not beyond my trust...

You’ve given me this one day,  Lord,
no more than that, and
I pray and hope,
certainly not less...

So I offer you this day
and I pray that in its course I’ll find you:
    walking by my side,
    pulsing in my heart,
    coloring my thoughts,
    guiding my decisions,
    speaking in my prayer,
    generous in mercy,
    giving me your strength,
    calling me to rest
    and holding me in love...

I offer you this one day, Lord,
and pray I won't be burdened
    by memories of what’s past,
    by sorrows born of loss,
by worry of what’s yet to be,
    by fear of what's unknown...

So on this day, Lord, I pray:
let my heart drink in your mercy,
        your pardon, peace and grace;
and let my hands reach out in kindness
        to serve my neighbors' needs...

Today’s the day that you’ve made, Lord
    may I rejoice in it
and in you find my joy!

Amen.
