About tomorrow's prayer...

Beginning at sundown on Wednesday, October 1 and ending at sundown on October 2, our Jewish friends and neighbors will observe Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.

This holy day is rich in spirituality and prayer.  Christians might try to imagine it as our Lent - compressed into a twenty-five hour period.

The new year (Rosh Hashana), which Jews celebrated this year on September 22, ushered in the 10 days of repentance which culminate in Yom Kippur.

As our Jewish friends take time to reflect on the year past and look forward to a new year to come, we can join then in asking God to help us acknowledge our sins and to grant us mercy and pardon.

On my page here, then, we won't be texting with God as we usually do on Wednesday mornings.  Rather, both our Pause for Prayer and Night Prayer will offer us an opportunity to examine our lives and pray for God's forgiveness.
