Increasingly aware of the impact of the daily news on my spirit, my prayer, my mood and my hope - I wrote this evening's prayer...
In a desert of disappointment, Lord,
I thirst for a little good news...
Offended by inequity, lies and abuse,
I cry for justice, fairness and truth...
In the valley of death's own shadow,
I forage for signs of life...
Crushed by the crass, the rude and the crude,
I hunger for purity, beauty and grace...
Lost in a forest dense and dark,
I seek a path to the light...
Deafened by cries of terror and war,
I ache to hear the song of peace...
Caught in storms that batter my soul
I pray for clearing, for calm...
Alone in crowds, I seek out faces
familiar, welcoming, and kind...
Rescue me, Lord, from the day's dysfunction:
restore the order of beauty and truth...
Refresh my soul with your mercy and wisdom,
my heart with compassion and kindness...
Renew my trust and my hope in you
and in humankind's graced capacity
to repent and make good,
to change and to grow,
to become again your very own:
the people you made us and call us to be...
Rescue, renew and restore me, I pray:
refresh me O Lord my God!
Protect me, Lord while I'm awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.

You are my shelter from the hurricane
You are my rock, You are my shade
Never changing always the same
God refresh me
And when my burdens are breaking me down
And the enemy's cries shake the ground
I hear Your voice pierce the sound
Saying "I am with you."
So I lift my hands to You;
I lift my heart to You
Refresh me, O God refresh me
And I raise my weakness high
In it You're glorified
Refresh me, O God, refresh me
^First three stanzas repeat^
Let the river flow down from your throne
Let it wash me now and make me whole
Lord fill my heart, flood my soul
Oh refresh me, Oh God refresh me
Oh, I loose my hands, Take control
God may your purposes unfold
There's a greater story to be told
Oh refresh me, oh God refresh me
So I lift my hands to You;
I lift my heart to You
Refresh me, O God refresh me
And I raise my weakness high
In it You're glorified
Refresh me, O God, refresh me
