Where I live, Lord,
the clocks have changed,
the days grow short,
the trees are nearly bare
and the temperature has fallen
below the freezing point...
- and not in an altogether friendly way -
so, help me find in the darkness
new longing for your light;
help me find in nature's dying
a thirst for life unending;
help me find amid the frost and chill
the warmth of your embrace;
and help me find in changing seasons
the will to change and grow
in your grace and in your love...
There comes in every season, Lord,
your presence and your peace,
so let your Spirit open me
to all November offers:
to your presence in the dying
and your promise of new life...
Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.
