In my corner of the world we're experiencing some thoroughly drenching rain - the kind that sneaks inside your umbrella and soaks you! So I think it's time to post this prayer once again - with, as usual, a few new turns of phrasing!
Like a hard, steady, streaming rain,
let your healing soak me, Lord:
your mercy come - a downpour,
your reign, a summer shower...
Soak me, drench me
- all but drown me!
- all but drown me!
Leave me dripping, sopping wet
with scented moist anointings
of your freely given grace;
of your freely given grace;
my toes and every inch of me
refreshed and cleansed in showers
soft and strong and cool and bracing...
soft and strong and cool and bracing...
Lift up my face in joy, Lord,
to the blessings of your rain:
let me drink it in and drink it down
let me drink it in and drink it down
'til my all thirst for you is quenched
from downspouts of your glory...
Rain, rain, reign of God,
rain down on me
and never,
rain down on me
and never,
never-ever, go away...
Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.
