Pause for Prayer: SUNDAY 6/14

However goes this summer, Lord,
I pray you'll spend it by my side:
    on scorchers and on cool days,
    walk with me, day by day...

Whatever summer asks of me,
I pray for strength to reach out
    to family, friends and neighbors
    - to anyone in need...

Whatever summer hope I have
I pray I'll come to find it,
    right where I am, in my own life,
    in body, mind and soul...

Whatever change this summer brings
I pray I might accept it
    with trust in your abiding pledge
    to be my shade, my strength...

Whatever summer offers me,
I pray I'll welcome warmly:
    the unexpected, simple, rare
    - each gift your hand reveals...

Whatever joy this summer spares,
I pray I'll swim its rolling waves
    and find within its healing warmth
    a season of your love...

Whatever time this summer yields,
I pray I'll share with you, Lord:
    in quiet moments, spent in prayer,
    in peace, right by your side...

Amen.

Here's a delightful medieval English round from the mid-13th century - enjoy!

Sing cuccu,
Sing cuckoo.
Sumer is icumen in,
Summer has arrived,
Lhude sing cuccu,
Sing loudly cuckoo,
Groweth sed and bloweth med,
The seed is growing and the meadow is blooming,
And springth the wde nu;
And the wood is coming into leaf now;
Sing cuccu.
Sing cuckoo.
Awe bleteth after lomb,
The ewe is bleating after her lamb,
Lhouth after calve cu;
The cow is lowing after her calf;
Bulloc sterteth, bucke verteth,
The bullock is prancing, the billy goat farting,
Murie sing cuccu.
Sing merrily cuckoo!
Cuccu, cuccu Wel singes thu cuccu,
Cuckoo, cuckoo. You sing well cuckoo,
Ne swik thu naver nu.
Never stop now.
