Ave Maria - 8

Most folks are familiar with Andrew Lloyd Webber, composer of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Cats, Starlight Express and Sunset Boulevard - among others! I only just discovered that he has a younger brother who is also an accomplished musician, cellist Julian Lloyd Webber. It's Julian's performance of the Bach-Gounod Ave Maria you'll hear on this post's video. (And if you've been paying attention in this series, you'll recognize that the M.C. who introduces Webber errs by saying he'll play "Bach's Ave Maria." We've learned that it's Gounod's Ave which floats over Bach's Prelude No. 1.)

For another side of Julian Lloyd's musicality, give a listen here to his duet with jazz violinist, Stephane Grappelli. (Yours truly is a Grappelli fan. Thanks, Brady!)

What are you doing this Sunday night? I'll bet few things on your schedule would be as beautiful as joining us for Evening Prayer at 7:00 p.m., followed at 7:30 by Lauren Sprague (soprano) and Carol Messina (piano) presenting their concert, Chosen From All Women. If this series on the Ave Maria has touched your heart then you will be moved by a program of Marian music offered by two fine musicians.
