A busy bishop
Ilya Repin: Saint Nicholas saves three innocents from death
(1888; Russian Museum, Petersburg)
Tomorrow, December 6, is the feast of a saint, a bishop, whom you most likely connect with children. You may not know that he is also the patron saint of: women seeking husbands, sailors and travelers - and known as a staunch defender of the faith. (In the Repin painting above, this saint is intervening to save the lives of three innocent sailors.)
You can study the legend and the history of this popular saint here and here.
And more tomorrow!
