Prayer for a winter morning
Frost and chill, bless the Lord;
praise and exalt him above all forever.
Ice and snow, bless the Lord;
praise and exalt him above all forever.
Daniel 3:69-70
Good morning, good Lord!
Frost and chill still praise you without end,
but my heart longs
for fire and heat to warm the soul...
While blessed ice and snow exult,
my heart waits spring's promise
to glory in your name...
I know you are here in every clime
but all within me longs for longer days'
healing rays of sun...
Would you, in winter, warm me, Lord,
and breathe in me a heat
to thaw my chill?
Would you, in winter, shine on me
a light too soon but oh, so welcome,
bright on darkened days?
Frost and chill may praise you without end,
but my heart longs
for fire and heat to warm the soul...

Greetings from summer climes. Today we had hot winds and we all longed for respite!
ReplyDeleteI, too, long for healing warmth. Thanks for the reminder that God is with us ALL the time, in ALL kinds of "weather"...
ReplyDeleteThis prayer was welcome on this very cold and gray morning. Hope springs eternal.
ReplyDeleteLovely prayer. Someone in the office today told a group of us that each year the last Monday of January has the highest suicide rate! So there is something to this cold, gray weather that makes us feel sad and depressed. It was also pointed out by someone that that is when all those Christmas bills come due. So be aware that you're not alone. If I had a fireplace, I would be sitting in front of it at every opportunity! There is nothing so cozy or comforting than to curl up in front of a fire.
