Lord of the Dance
Here's a great song that does not easily lend itself to inclusion at the Sunday liturgy. But this season should not pass by without our hearing and singing this joyful tune.
Lord of the Dance is sung to a 19th century Shaker tune but the lyrics were not written until 1963 by Sydney Carter. The version here is by folk singer Donovan.
Last week in a comment on my posting the movement from Grofe's Grand Canyon Suite (see the top of the sidebar), someone noted that this site had "fasted" from music during Lent. I had no ascetic intentions in mind but it had been a while since music was an option here. So, I'll try to catch up on offering some music for your prayer and listening.

It has been some time since I have visited. What a beautiful video. I now can think of Donovan from a different perspective...besides Mellow Yellow...
ReplyDeleteWe have sung this song at Mass before. I like it better each time we sing it.
ReplyDeleteWhat about doing Lord of the Dance on Pentecost? The altar servers, lectors, Eucharistic ministers, deacons and you could process up and down the aisles with you singing the verses and all of us joining in for the chorus. I first heard Lord of the Dance at a UU Fellowship (church) in Laramie, WY. We were led around the worship space by a professor from University of Wyoming with a beautiful baritone voice. Bill sang the verses and we all came in on the chorus. This was for me, as a Catholic, a wonderful and emotional ecumenical experience.
