Pentecost Novena to the Holy Spirit

Veni, Sancte Spiritus!

From today's scripture:
The LORD is in his holy temple;
the LORD’s throne is in heaven.
His eyes behold,
his searching glance is on humankind.

The LORD searches the just and the wicked;
the lover of violence he hates.
For the LORD is just, he loves just deeds;
the upright shall see his face.
Psalm 11:4, 5 , 7

For whom, for what shall we pray?

- For victims of violence in their homes
and on the streets of their cities...

- For victims of emotional, verbal
physical and sexual abuse...

- For victims of violence in war,
especially for the poor and innocent...

- For combatants in a just war...

- For conscientious objectors...

- For the conversion of perpetrators
of violence...

- For all who work for justice and peace...


Let us pray:
Come, Holy Spirit of God!
Give us good counsel
when we confront our enemies.

Give us the courage to choose
the way of peace;
Give us wisdom to find and follow
the path of non-violence.

Watch over those in harm's way
those who serve and protect us
with their lives.

Harvest within and among us
the fruits of your presence:
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness
and self-control.

Come, Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your people
and kindle in us the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and we shall be created
and you will renew the face of the earth.

Lift our eyes to the Lord's,
watching over us from his throne in heaven.
Teach us justice that in our deeds
we may see the beauty of his face.
