Two little words...
Hot Myspace Glitters - Dezrum.com
This morning I had a doctor's appointment. Arriving at the office I approached the reception desk in an administrative area separated from the waiting room by a glass wall. About five women were working there. One greeted me, gave me a form to fill out and showed me where I could be seated. Having filled out the form I returned it and the same receptionist told me someone would be with me in five minutes. In five minutes the doctor's assistant came to greet me and took me to an examining room where there were a few more questions and a couple of checks of vitals. She told me the doctor would be with me soon - and he was. He was polite, helpful and made sure I got all my questions answered.
As I was preparing to leave I stopped by the reception desk and said, "I just wanted to tell you how smoothly this visit went and how much I appreciate the way everyone dealt with me and the fact that there was virtually no waiting."
I thought the woman was going to faint!
She turned to a coworker sitting behind her at another desk and said, "Did you hear this?" She then repeated to her colleague what I had just said to her. Everyone in the office was now listening. I said, "Well, everyone here did a good job and I wanted to thank you."
With that I left the room but turned right instead of left so I had to double back. As I passed the reception desk I heard, "A compliment! Someone just told us we're doing a good job!"
When I have a complaint, I lodge it. When I have a compliment, I give it. A complaint courteously made can be helpful; a compliment, freely given, can be as good as a dozen roses!
My simple, "Good job!" made some folks very happy today.
I've got to remember to do this more often...

It's a great reminder for all of us. People do like compliments !!
ReplyDeleteAs someone who worked in the management area of the retail business for many years, I became accustomed to receiving complaints on a fairly regular basis. And I find that when people are angry at things that don't go thier way, or obstacles that cause one to be held up with thier time, people can be very nasty and ruin what began as a good day. When we would receive comliments it's true...it's like receiving a dozen roses. I always make a point of trying to be understanding, and rather that complain, I would much rather compliment people on thier good work. I hope everyone tries this. You never know how much you can change a person's day and attitude by simply being nice, and making a point of letting them know that they have done a good job.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice person you are, Concord Pastor!
ReplyDeleteGood job.
ReplyDeleteThere have been times that I have done business on the phone and then ask for a supervisor. The person says may I ask why and I tell them because I want to tell them how helpful, polite, etc. they were and the say thank you. When I talk to their supervisor they are always so happy to hear something nice and thank me for taking the time to talk to them. They also usually say they will put something in their files or if they do not mention this I ask if they can do this for them. I find it so easy to be disappointed and complain, but if you make the extra effort when someone has done something well, it really does make their day and personally mine too.

I hope you got a good report from your doctor!
ReplyDeleteI walked out with a new prescription and the doctor telling me to come back in a year.
ReplyDeleteThe "come back in a year" sounds like a good report. Not sure about the "new prescription"?! Does your doctor read your blog? If so, he might have mentioned the importance of enough sleep! They say 7-8 hours is needed to maintain good health. That means 7-8 hours each night!!!
