Pope's Prayer Intention for October

The video is a collage of images over the music of the "Epistle" from Mass: A Theater Piece of Singers, Players and Dancers by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Schwartz. Mass premiered in 1971, before the era of sensitivity to gender issues in language.

Every four weeks the Vatican announces the pope's particular prayer intention for the coming month. Here's Benedict's intention for October:

That the Synod of Bishops may help
the pastors and theologians,
the catechists and promoters
who are engaged in the service of the Word of God

to courageously transmit the truth of faith
in communion with the entire Church.

The Synod of Bishops mentioned in the text of the intention refers to an international gathering in Rome of clergy and lay scripture scholars for a series of meetings (October 5-26) around the theme The Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church.

More information can be found here at CNS and here at the USCCB, along with a variety of links to other sites.

A good deal of space on this blog is devoted to the Word of God: Word for the Week on the sidebar; weekly notice and reminders of the scriptures (and background materials) for the coming weekend; and weekly homilies. Please pray that the beauty, power and wisdom of God's Word continue to strengthen the people of the Church and their mission.

  1. I just had a chance to watch the video with Bernstein's Epistle from Mass overlay - very powerful.
