Word for the Weekend - November 9

This aerial shot gives a great view of the cruciform design of the Lateran Basilica in Rome.

November 9 is the
Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica in Rome
.
Yet again, a feast on the liturgical calendar trumps the regular Sunday scriptures and prayers (which would have been the 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time). This is the third time this fall that such a switch has occurred - do you remember the first two? (Answer in the combox!)
Here are the scriptures and background materials for this weekend's liturgy. If you're wondering what's so important about this particular church building that it has its own day - take a look here and here.

Got kids? Here's some helpful info for preparing them to hear the Word at Mass this Sunday.

  1. Answer to the question in the post: What were the other two feasts this fall that trumped a Sunday in Ordinary Time?

    September 14:
    Exultation of the Holy Cross

    November 2:
    All Souls Day

  2. All Souls Day - I got that one. I was stumped by the Exultation of the Cross... too early in the day perhaps, my brain is foggy!
