The readings for this Third Sunday of Advent include another gospel passage focused on John the Baptist while the first two scriptures highlight joy. On the liturgical calendar this Sunday, halfway through Advent, is known by its Latin name: Gaudete (Rejoice!) Sunday. The halfway point of Lent is likewise called Laetare (Rejoice) Sunday. In some parishes, rose vestments are worn on this day and it's customary to light the rose candle on the Advent wreath on this day.
