The seasons turn, turn, turn: Lent in the liturgical year

This weekend finds us celebrating the Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time. Sunday's readings with helpful hints for kids and grownups can be found at this earlier post.

I've place the pie chart of the liturgical year above to remind us that we're about to enter the Lent-Easter cycle of our annual celebration of the mysteries of our redemption.

This weekend finds us at the end of the green slice at roughly the 2 o'clock position. As you can see, the Lent-Easter cycle comprises more than a quarter of the liturgical year with only the long stretch of Ordinary Time between Pentecost and the First Sunday of Advent being longer.

Let's pray for each other that we make the most of these holy seasons by opening our hearts to the Spirit in prayer, fasting and care for the poor.

It's a sign of my age that when I tried to think of a song for this post on the liturgical year, this is the tune that came to mind...

  1. Your dating yourself Padre - great song.

I read that Turn is a song adapted from the the Book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible. But you already knew that!
