Word for the Weekend - March 7

Brooklyn Museum: The Tower of Siloam (Le tour de Siloƫ)
Tower of Siloam by James Tissot

Time to open the scriptures for the readings for the coming weekend. We are currently in Year C of the Lectionary but parishes preparing for baptisms at the Easter Vigil have the option of using the readings for Year A for this and the next two weeks. This is because the Year A readings are especially suited to the Rites of Christian Initiation.

So, parishes using Year C readings will find the texts and commentary here while parishes using Year A readings will find their texts and commentary here.

Bringing children to worship? Our site for preparing children to hear the Word offers only the Year C readings and commentary which can be found here.

The Year C lectionary offers the parable of the fig tree (preceded by the 18 folks killed by the falling tower at Siloam).

The Year A lectionary offers the story of Jesus meeting the woman at the well.

Both sets of readings offer rich fare for Lenten prayer - take a look now at these scriptures so you'll be prepared to hear them. And if you're not certain which texts your parish will be using - read them both!
