A poem for late August

August
rushes by like desert rainfall,
A flood of frenzied upheaval,
Expected,
But still catching me unprepared.
Like a matchflame
Bursting on the scene,
Heat and haze of crimson sunsets.
Like a dream
Of moon and dark barely recalled,
A moment,
Shadows caught in a blink.
Like a quick kiss;
One wishes for more
But it suddenly turns to leave,
Dragging summer away.

  2. I love this poem. I always find this part of the year momentous because it marks the threshold of leaving behind those wonderful restorative "summer pastures" we have been enjoying and even though I am now retired I know and empathise well with the feelings of teachers and students who are preparing for a new academic year.
    Thanks for this. It is beautiful.
