| Maccabean Martyrs: OCA |
The "Maccabean Martyrs" are the seven brothers and their mother found in this coming weekend's first scripture and in the icon above. (The eighth figure is Eleazar, the faithful priest whom the brothers and their mother followed in martyrdom.) There are seven brothers in this Sunday's gospel, too, along with one bride - but that's a different story!
