Coming up is the last Sunday before Lent begins: the 9th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
These scriptures are a fine prelude to Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent! Beginning with a text from Deuteronomy we encouraged to "take the words of the Lord into our hearts and souls" and to choose the blessing that comes from being faithful to the Lord's word and commands. Paul reminds us that all have sinned but that through the grace of baptism we are justified and redeemed in the blood of Christ Jesus on the Cross. And in Matthew, the Lord himself reminds us that unless we listen to and build our lives on the word of the Lord, we will collapse like a house built on sand falls apart in a storm.
To read over these scriptures and commentary on them, check the St. Louis University site and if you're bringing young ones to Mass this weekend, check the Sadlier page for hints on helping children prepare to hear the Word of the Lord.
A question for each of us to consider: Is my house build on sand or on rock?
