I needed this!
Fr. Jack Butler is a Jesuit priest at Boston College. This short reflection of his gave me and my spirits a real lift - perhaps it will do the same for you.

Thank you for this, Father Fleming. Sometimes I struggle to keep focused on Jesus and not all the other stuff.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all you do for us on this blog. It's beautiful.
Yes, it did. Thanks for finding it.
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Exactly what I needed to hear, balm to the increasingly wounded spirit of this convert to Catholicism. I'm repeating like a mantra: "As for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord" to offset my utter dismay and discouragement these days. This video of Jack Butler helps, as do fine priests like you.
ReplyDeleteAfter I watched this video, I watched another U Tube video of Fr. Jack Butler's that I found on Google about how he became a Jesuit. Each of these was a beautiful love story. Thanks for drawing my attention.

Father,
ReplyDeleteI saw this video maybe three minutes after you posted. I promise you the words contained within - especially "do not become so overwhelmed that you loose faith and leave" were, I feel, directed to me through the Spirit.
I was giving a workshop/retreat in a seminary where the homily was a call to join the Crusade to martyrdom over "religious liberty." This, at the same time the when voices of women, prophetic women, who built so much of American Catholicism and taught so many of our Bishops are being told, basically that they are heretics.
By the power of the Spirit I pray not to be overwhelmed because "God Lives."
Thank you. Let us pray for one another and for as John XXII prayed for 50 years ago - a new Pentecost.
