Held in arms that don't let go
To be found by eyes seeking mine...
to be recognized for who I truly am...
to be known and called by name...
to be loved -- no strings attached...
to be fully, freely forgiven...
to be embraced with warmth
and held in arms that don't let go...
Who among us doesn't long for such a love?
In different ways,
disarmingly obvious but often subtle,
we all desire these moments:
we thirst for them, drink them in,
trust and treasure them when they come
(too often deny and discard them in our doubt)
and yet seek them again and again,
always searching for the One whose arms will
hold and not let go...
Every faithful friend's embrace,
and of the longed-for lover, too,
knows moments of foolish weakness,
even letting go --
all save the arms of One
whose strength never tires,
whose love never ends,
who forgets us not
though we so often, easily forget
that love more perfect
than any we'd dreamed
or hoped...
Every healing hug around our aching hearts
is but a shadow of the love
we seek again and again
until we're held in arms
that don't let go...
Our hearts are restless, Lord,
until they rest in you...
