I wonder if it's possible to fall asleep
the first time you go to bed as the pope...
I wonder what it's like to wake up in the morning
and suddenly remember, "I'm the pope!"
Do you wonder if it was all a dream?
Do you hope it was a nightmare?
Is the aroma of fresh brewed coffee in the air?
What a difference a day makes...
Less than 24 hours after being elected pope,
you find that every moment of every day and night
is scheduled for you by other people...
You wake up and realize that the whole world knows you
and waits to hear what you'll say, read what you'll write,
debate what you decide, watch where you go
and critique what you do...
Your life is no longer yours:
it belongs to Christ and his people...
Let us pray for our brother Francis, Bishop of Rome
and Holy Father of us all...
