Lord, put a sticker on the windshield of my soul
to remind me when my prayer life needs a tune-up
- and I'm thinking I might need one pretty soon...

My filter needs a thorough cleaning,
screening out what's clogging up
what fuels the engine of my being...

My prayer life won't turn over, it misfires,
and your Spirit's charged ignition
is the spark I need to start me up again...

Lord, filter all the air I breathe
and keep from my heart's valves
what keeps me far from you...

My soul's old timing belt is worn and fails
to sync my needs and fears with time to pray
for you to manage my combustion...

I need a fluid faith for power-steering through hard times,
for braking when I need to stop and think again,
and stop and think again...

I need the holy oil of grace
to keep me running smooth and clean
in thought, in word, in deed...

Lord, put a sticker on the windshield of my soul
to remind me when my prayer life needs a tune-up
-- and I'm thinking I might need one pretty soon...
