Pause for Prayer: FRIDAY 12/30

For so long, Lord,
for too long,
we've held grudges and resentments
and carried backpacks of anger
weighing silently heavy on our shoulders
and in our souls,
keeping us apart from one another...

Now we're less than 48 hours away
from a new beginning, Lord,
a new year:
will we carry our burdens
past Saturday's midnight
and auld lang syne
and begin yet another year
in the clouds of mistrust,
with chips on our shoulders:
our hearts estranged
for the sake of pride?

If there's not be enough time
to resolve such feelings
before the new year's clock strikes 12
then help us, Lord,
help us make it our first purpose
in 2017
to offer and make peace
- where peace has long been wanting...

We need your help with this, Lord,
because up until now, sadly,
we've not managed to do this on our own...

Help us, Lord,
to make things new among us
in the new year that is ours...

Amen.
