Pause for Prayer: THURSDAY 2/9

So busy we are, Lord,
about so many trivial things...

Perhaps that's why
you'll spend today
covering us with snow:
slowing our steps,
and hitting our pause button...

We often need that, Lord.
we need to be inconvenienced,
interrupted, slowed down
stopped by the pure, soft beauty
of your presence, settling gently,
flake by snowy flake,
and dressing us and our neighborhood
in a garment of pure grace...

Let your snow fall on upturned faces, Lord,
and as children catch snow flakes on the tongue
so let us taste the sweetness
of your wintry visit...

Are we too old, Lord,
for making angels in the snow?
Then send some snowy angels
to make of us the children
you want us all to be...

And as the snow chills our limbs
may your touch melt our hearts
and draw us to your heart
where the fire of your love
burns always
with crackling beauty,
bright and warm...

And remind us, Lord,
of those burdened by the weather:
call us to support all those
who serve and shelter the homeless...

And remind us, Lord,
of those who serve and protect us:
clearing walks and plowing streets...

And when the snow has all been shoveled
and our pace has quickened once again:
keep us mindful of those moments
when the blanket of your presence
calmed and warmed our hearts
and brought us close to you...

Amen.
